Discovering the illness...

James Saunders was a great man. I should know, I am his youngest daughter. He was completely healthy growing up. Rambunctious? Maybe, but always healthy. He definitely grew up a country boy, as did all our family. After he Graduated from Winder-Barrow High School he decided to to support his country and join the military as an Combat Aircarft Mechanic. After serving one year he came back home to marry his high school sweetheart Marsha Allen. Which then led to my sister Hannah two years later. By the time Hannah arrived they had moved to Riverside, California where my Dad was stationed at March Airforce Base. When Hannah was seven months old Daddy transfered to Moody Airforce Base located in Valdosta, Georgia. For two years my sister had the parents to herself, but then December 1, 1983 my brother Jacob was born. When Jacob was seven months old our great grandfather(Boopa)had a stroke. This was around the time where my dads time was up in the military, and instead of re-enlisting he decided to move the family back to Walton County to assist Boopa on his farm. After moving back daddy had to be in the reserve for two years so during that time he also served as an Army cook in Walton County. During this time our family need a little extra money so my dad also became a comercial plummer. (he was a very handy man)While he was working as a plummer he started having trouble with his legs, balance and such. So he had to be taken out of the labor working enviroment. In other words he would only be aloud to have inside jobs. Which is how he started working at the Walton County jail opening and closing doors for the inmates. The Doctors diagnosed my daddy with Multiple Sclerosis(MS)in June of 1989. He was then discharged from the military. Along with the diagnosis the doctors also told my dad that he would never be able to have kids again, which really didn't affect him because they had already had all the family they needed. In February of 1988, my brother Jacob was tragically taken from the family. He had been playing in the backyard of our great grandparents house where they also had a watering well. I guess Jacob was trying to play Mr. fix it on a piece of wood lying over the top of the well(like any average boy) Jacob had taken all the nails out of the wood that was laying over the well and fell in and was knocked unconscious in the water. After losing my brother, my fathers health went on a downward roll. In less than three months my dad went from walking to paralyzed from the waist down. Our family had to pull together in a major way to make it through this tragedy. But when God closes one door he always opens another and thats where I come in eleven months later...
